Tribute to a Great Educator.

Many hope that when they die, they will be remembered for something good. Some hope for a legacy. I found out today that long-time educator, and former principal at Leesville High School (my alma mater), died earlier this week from cancer. Mr. Murphy was a fantastic, caring person. He opened my high school in 1993 and continued in that role until 2004. While he achieved many things in his lifetime, I think all of the students in my graduating class can say they were deeply saddened when he went to work for the Superintendent our graduating year. He helped so many of us find the joy in learning, and a feeling of community in a new school. I can honestly say that Mr. Murphy is not only remembered for something good, but that he left a true legacy- one that challenges educators everywhere to continue teaching and helping students to reach their highest potential.

May you rest in peace.
